
Andrew Parris is +44-year Broadcast Television Engineer with 3-Technical Emmy awards who worked for NASA for 13 years (1987 to 2000) at both the Dryden Flight Research Center and the Johnson Spaceflight Center.
During his tenure at NASA, Andrew was involved in multiple aspects of Space Shuttle & International Space Station mission coverage as well as astronaut training activities. These activates included SCUBA diving at the WETF and NBL with spacesuit wearing astronauts as well as flying on the “Weightless Wonder” Microgravity Research Aircraft, a.k.a. "The Vomit Comet".
Andrew’s work with NASA also included travel to document NASA activates worldwide. The grandest of which was 3 trips to Moscow, Russia to document ISS construction and astronaut/cosmonaut training and 1 trip to the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan to document the launch of the first International Space Station crew.
Andrew left NASA in 2000 to work for Mark Cuban to help create the nation’s first all high-definition television network, HDNet. In 2005 he acted as the commercial lead for a joint project between NASA KSC & HDNet. Andrew was the Engineer-In-Charge and Director for the exclusive live HDTV coverage of the launch and landing of STS-114.
In 2021 Andrew decided it was time to reconnect with the space world. After applying for the Inspiration 4 mission, he became inspired to become a Space Communicator, mentor & Commercial Astronaut. First step was to become a volunteer at Space Center Houston. He excelled at connecting and educating the thousands of daily guests at SCH. He was named “Exception Volunteer Award” for the first quarter of 2022.
In July of 2023 Andrew and 4 other members of the I24 team participated in a Spaceflight Training class #1 with the University of Arizona’s CHaSE (Center for Human Space Exploration) in Tucson, AZ. Andrew was trainer for I24 CHaSE Spaceflight Training classes 2, 3 & 4. (More classes are being planned.)
Andrew was born in Omaha, NE and lives in Houston, TX, has 2 grown children and 2 grandchildren and has been married to his wife for +40 years. He is a Texas Volunteer Deputy Voters Registrar and has been on the science-based TV show, Mythbusters. He is 64 years of age.
